Nomad Design High Performance Rods
The Nomad Rod Range: Purpose-Built Fishing Tools
Nomad Design Founder Damon Olsen talks through the Nomad range of rods and explains the actions, tapers and the design philosophy behind the range. If you want to know why these rods are different and what they are designed for, then this is the video for you.

At Nomad Design, every rod we build is designed with a single goal in mind: create the best possible rod for a specific fishing application.
Rather than producing multiple rods across different price points to do the same job, we take a different approach. Each rod in the Nomad range is purpose-built to perform one job exceptionally well. We design the rod first, focusing on performance, action, and durability, and then we work to make it as cost-effective as possible without compromising quality.
This philosophy comes from decades of real-world experience. After more than 25 years of charter fishing and testing rods across every category, we’ve seen what works, what doesn’t, and what anglers truly need on the water.
Let’s take a closer look at the Nomad rod range.
Offshore Spinning Rods
Our Offshore Spin range includes four models, each designed for specific offshore lure fishing techniques.
PE 8–10 (7'8") – Designed for heavy popper fishing
PE 5–8 (8’3”) – A powerful stickbait rod for larger lures
PE 4–6 (7'8") – A versatile stickbait and popper combination rod
PE 2–4 (7’4”) – Perfect for lighter stickbait fishing such as the Madscad 115 with 40–50lb braid
These rods are built with a parabolic action, meaning the rod bends progressively from the tip through the foregrip when under load. This design provides three key advantages:
Maximum casting distance
Better lure action
More efficient fish-fighting power
Unlike older rod designs where the tip is soft and the rod suddenly locks up through the blank, Nomad rods distribute load evenly. This makes them far more comfortable to fish with and significantly improves casting performance.
Advanced Blank Construction
The Offshore Spin rods feature Helix 30T 45-Degree carbon construction, built with Japanese Toray carbon fiber. The 45-degree spiral wrap strengthens the blank while delivering a crisp, responsive feel. The result is a rod that feels powerful, balanced, and incredibly efficient when casting and working surface lures.

Slow Pitch Jigging Rods
Our Slow Pitch Jigging rods are designed specifically for anglers who want to maximize the action of their jigs.
The range includes rods from 6’8” down to 6’2”–6’3” models, available in both spinning and overhead options. Many slow pitch rods on the market feature extremely soft tips. While that might seem ideal, it actually reduces the amount of action transferred to the jig.
With Nomad rods, the goal is different.
The rod is designed to load and recover efficiently, allowing each turn of the reel handle to flick the jig upward and create more movement in the water. The more action you put into the jig, the more bites you generate. Like the Offshore range, these rods feature:
30-ton carbon composite blanks
Helix construction
A deep parabolic bend that extends through the reel seat
This makes them exceptionally comfortable when fighting fish, even under heavy load.
Traditional (Heavy) Jigging Rods
For anglers who prefer standard jigging techniques, the Nomad range also includes a dedicated jigging series. This range includes: Spinning jigging rods and overhead model (PE 4–6) ideal for fishing 50–80lb braid. These rods follow a more traditional jigging design, with:
Slightly softer tips
A strong parabolic bend
Enough stiffness to effectively work jigs
They’re ideal for general jigging applications where versatility and lifting power are required.
Inshore Spinning Rods
The Inshore Spin range is designed for lighter tackle fishing and includes two models: 10–20lb and 20–30lb. These rods are built to handle a wide variety of inshore lure techniques. The tip has a little more flexibility, making it perfect for working:
Soft plastics
Hardbody lures
Smaller stickbaits
The design provides enough sensitivity and responsiveness for lure control while remaining comfortable for extended casting sessions.

Premium Components Across the Entire Range
Every rod in the Nomad range features high-quality components, including:
Fuji guides
Premium reel seats
Durable fittings designed for harsh saltwater environments
These components ensure long-term reliability when targeting powerful saltwater species. Designed for Performance. The biggest difference with Nomad rods is simple:
Each rod is designed to do one job exceptionally well.
We don’t create multiple versions of the same rod at different price points. Instead, we focus on designing the best tool possible for each fishing technique.
The result is a range of rods built by anglers, for anglers, rods that are extremely effective, durable, and purpose-built to catch fish.
