Nomad Design D-Trak Deep Crankbait

Nomad Design D-Trak Deep Crankbait

At Nomad Tackle, our Crafted By Experience approach has led to innovations that change the way anglers fish. One of our proudest achievements is the patented Autotune™ System, a design breakthrough that has transformed saltwater lures and now powers one of the most effective freshwater crankbaits ever made: the D-Trak.

The D-Trak 65 (2.5", 20g) and its deep-diving big brother, the D-Trak 80 (3.25", 36g), have redefined what a crankbait can do. By adapting our Autotune™ System for freshwater, we were able to position the tow point further down the bill than on traditional crankbaits. This unique setup allows the D-Trak to:

  • Dive deeper, faster, and straighter than standard cranks.
  • Be worked aggressively without rolling out, even under high retrieve speeds.
  • Stay deep with minimal effort once it’s down, perfect for covering big structures or deep banks.

Add to that a huge range of colors inspired by native baitfish and natural prey, and you have a lure that will surprise and delight anyone who loves crankbait fishing.

Why the D-Trak Excels in Freshwater? Most freshwater crankbaits struggle to maintain stability when pushed to extreme depths or high retrieve speeds. The D-Trak’s Autotune™ tow point eliminates this issue, giving you confidence to fish deeper structures where trophy fish hold without worrying about blowouts or tangled lines.

This is a game-changer in Australian freshwater systems, where fish like Murray cod, yellowbelly, Australian bass, and barramundi often hold tight to deep snags, rock bars, and submerged ledges. The D-Trak gets you to those fish with ease and keeps you there longer.

Tips & Techniques for Freshwater Success Here’s how to get the most from your D-Trak when targeting iconic Aussie freshwater predators:

For Yellowbelly (Golden Perch)

Medium Retrieve With Twitches: Subtle rod twitches during a steady retrieve mimic a wounded baitfish deadly for yellowbelly. Vertical Timber Approach: Position close to standing timber and crank the D-Trak straight down. Pause to keep it in the strike zone. Mix Up The Action: Alternate slow cranks with gentle rips to trigger reaction strikes.

For Aussie Bass

Power Cranking Points: Bass schooling off points or drop-offs love a fast-moving D-Trak 65. Cast long and burn it down to depth. Stop-Start Retrieve: Short bursts followed by pauses imitate fleeing baitfish. The Autotune™ system keeps the D-Trak stable throughout. Match The Hatch: Use natural baitfish tones in clear water and chartreuse or brighter hues in stained dams and rivers.

For Murray Cod

Slow Roll + Pause: Cod respond well to a steady retrieve with long pauses to let the lure suspend or rise slightly. The D-Trak’s stability keeps it tracking perfectly even at crawling speeds. Target Deep Timber & Drop-Offs: The D-Trak 80 gets down quickly to where big cod wait. Low Light Advantage: Fish dawn, dusk, and overcast days with natural or dark hues.

For Barramundi

Slow Crank With Sweeps: Barramundi love a slow, controlled retrieve with the occasional rod sweep to flare the lure. Pause and let the D-Trak hang as barra often hit on the pause. Work Rock Bars & Timber: Use the D-Trak 80 for deep snags, river bends, and dam edges where big barra hold. Night Barra: In impoundments, a slow-rolled D-Trak in dark or translucent colors can tempt monster barra under the cover of darkness.

Whether you’re slow-rolling for Murray cod, power-cranking bass, teasing yellowbelly off timber, or tempting trophy barramundi around snags, the D-Trak series brings a new edge to freshwater crankbait fishing. Its Autotune™ System, aggressive diving action, and stability make it a lure that simply outperforms anything else in its class.
